Duties and Responsibilities:
Emergency Medical Technicians respond to emergency calls to provide immediate care to someone who is critically ill or injured and transfer the patients to medical facility. When an EMT receives the call, they drive the ambulance to the address or location using the most expeditious route, depending on traffic and weather conditions. This must be done quickly and efficiently, especially in serious life or death situations when a minute lost can mean the difference between saving someone or not. The EMT must:

Take Vital signs of the sick or injured.

See if the patient is Conscious or
Unconscious.
·
See if the patient is awake and able to
communicate.
·
Move
and carry the patient properly.
Average Yearly Salary:
$29,000 - $40,000
Education:
The EMT Course has three components:
didactic (120 hours) which includes practical, hands-on skills training, the
clinical/field ride-along (minimum 24 hours total of observation with a minimum
of 10 patient contacts), and final testing (4-8 hours). Through lectures,
interactive presentations, skills labs, and simulations, you will build the
knowledge and skills to care for patients. You must be 18 or over to be eligible
to certify as an EMT in California.
